Founders' Day Festival is a free, all-ages community event held every fall at the Man House Museum, 604 W. Broad Street, and it is one of the most genuinely fun days on the Mansfield calendar. What Is the Man House Museum and Why Does It Matter to Mansfield?
The Man House Museum is the restored homestead of Ralph Man, one of Mansfield's co-founders. Man and his partner Julian Feild opened a gristmill at the corner of Broad and Main streets in 1860, and that mill is why this city exists at all. Man built his family home between 1865 and 1870, and after an extensive restoration project, the city reopened it in December 2020 as a living history site. Today the museum is free to visit Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and guided tours run throughout those hours.

According to Tom Leach, president of the Mansfield Historical Society, the festival started in 2021 because of the opening of the Man House Museum, with the goal of bringing historical events to focus on the city and 19th-century life. As Leach put it, a lot of it is hands-on so the kids can try it and do it, and the history comes to life because they experience it by doing it (Arlington Today). And the appeal stretches well beyond the school-age crowd. Parking is available throughout downtown Mansfield. A free shuttle will run continuously between the Walnut Street parking lot, the Pond Street parking lots, and McClendon Park, all connecting to the museum entrance. The last shuttle departs the museum at 4:30 p.m., giving you a 30-minute window after the festival closes to wrap up and board.
