Chunk Your Junk in Mansfield, TX: A Guide for Residents

by Rachael Brenneman

If you’re a Mansfield resident, you’ve likely heard of Chunk Your Junk, a community event that helps families clear out bulky items that don’t fit into regular curbside pickup. Hosted twice a year, usually the first Saturday in April and October, these drop-off days are a convenient way to get rid of clutter while keeping our city clean and beautiful. This year, it will be held October 4th, 2025.

The process is simple. Bring your items to the designated site, show proof of residency (a driver’s license or utility bill will do), and unload. Staff may be available to assist, but residents should be prepared to handle their own drop-offs. For safety, all children must remain in the vehicle during unloading.

So, what exactly can you bring? Here’s a breakdown.

Items Accepted at Chunk Your Junk

  • Box springs and mattresses
  • Car batteries
  • Furniture
  • Scrap metal
  • Tires
  • Appliances (refrigerators, freezers, and AC units only if coolant has been removed)
  • Tree limbs and branches (drop these at the mulch site, 24 N. Mitchell Road)

To help speed up the process, keep bulky items separated and place trash in bags.

Items Not Accepted

  • Butane or propane tanks
  • Chemicals or cleaning products
  • Electronics
  • Fertilizers or pesticides
  • Motor oil
  • Roofing materials
  • Paint
  • Any materials from businesses or contractors

Many of these excluded items can still be dropped off during the city’s Household Hazardous Waste events, which are held monthly. For the remainder of 2025, you can drop off during these weekends:

  1. October 9 - 11, 2025
  2. November 6-8, 2025
  3. December 11-13, 2025

Shred Day Services

In addition to bulky item collection, Mansfield also offers free document shredding as part of these clean-up efforts. Shred Days take place on the first Saturday in January and during both Chunk Your Junk events. Each household can bring up to 100 pounds (about 10 boxes or bags) of sensitive documents for safe disposal. It’s a smart way to protect your personal information while clearing out old files.

Why It Matters

Events like Chunk Your Junk and Shred Day make it easier for Mansfield residents to dispose of items responsibly, reduce clutter at home, and help keep our neighborhoods looking their best. They’re one more reason Mansfield continues to be a great place to live, work, and play.

If you’re planning a big clean-out, check the City of Mansfield’s event calendar to confirm the next Chunk Your Junk date, and finally tackle those items that have been piling up in the garage.

Whether you’re preparing your house for sale, moving into a new Mansfield home, or simply decluttering, these events make it easier to stay organized. Keeping your home free of clutter doesn’t just make life less stressful, it can also help with staging, property value, and curb appeal.
